A new Advent Calendar
A charming new Advent calendar drawn and developed by Kapitein Kalk exclusively for Mercurius-International.
Coming soon is a new Advent Calendar that I created exclusively for Mercurius-International. An atmospheric drawing depicting the 4 lights of Advent is on the cover. In total there are 25 hatches to open, in which you will find various – old known ánd new – blackboard drawings. Starting on December 1 and ending on Christmas Day.
From October 1 the calendar will be available worldwide at Mercurius-International and partners and of course locally at my webshop and at markets!
The calendar will be available for € 18,95!
A beautifully drawn and designed 25-panel calendar befitting the celebration of Advent. The cover is drawn with soft pastels and when opening the panels you will find enchanting blackboard drawings. All drawings are created by Kapitein Kalk.
This 25-panel Advent calendar takes you through the four lights of Advent to Christmas. Both the pastel drawing on the cover as well as the blackboard drawings on the inside of the panels depict atmospheric elements of Advent and Christmas. Such as a candle at the start of each new Advent week, elements appropriate to the light of that week, as well as elements from the Nativity story and winter fun.
On the reverse side of the calendar is an accompanying Advent verse in the four languages English, German, Spanish and Dutch. To read to the children, or to read for yourself.
The Advent Calendar is designed as a triptych. By folding the side panels forward, the calendar can stand on its own.
The printing and cutting work was done with great care by Printing Company de Bij (NL). A ‘B Corp-certified’ printing company that stands for sustainability and social responsibility. The calendar is approx. 28,9 cm high and has a width of approx. 47,4 cm. The calendar is printed on high quality 300 gram FSC certified Biotop paper.

About the background of this calendar
The Advent season is not only a prelude to Christmas, but also a time of gratitude and self-reflection in which to reflect on the past year and look ahead to the new. In a society where December has become a busy festive month rather than a time of reflection and gratitude, the symbolism of the Advent lights, as seen in anthroposophy, captures my imagination and this is what I have used as the inspiration for the drawings of this Advent calendar. Each light and week of Advent is associated with its own specific aspect which relates to the different realms of nature and thereby the development of man.
The first light of Advent is dedicated to the Realm of Minerals and Stones and represents the foundation of everything, just as stones form a foundation. It can help you feel connected to the world around you and allow you to dwell on things that give you stability and strength.
The second Advent light is dedicated to the Kingdom of Plants and represents growth, vitality and energy. It refers to the realization that as a human being you can develop and flourish, both inside and out. And that as a human being you can reflect on what is needed to do this.
The third light of Advent represents the Animal Kingdom and symbolizes human emotions and instincts, just as animals have them. It helps you reflect on how you feel and react. As a human, you can experience whether this is in balance.
And finally, the fourth light of Advent is dedicated to the Human Kingdom. It symbolizes humans as individuals who can make choices and live consciously. But also as human being, being able to connect to something greater and that you can let the light in yourself shine in connection with the world.
